Do I need planning permission for a garden building in Dorchester?
+In most cases, no. Most garden offices, log cabins and summerhouses fall under permitted development, as long as they meet the size and position rules. Every property is different, so we'll talk it through with you during your site visit. If you're unsure, Dorset Council can confirm what applies to your home.
What are the size and height limits for garden buildings in Dorchester?
+The eaves can be no higher than 2.5m. The overall height can be up to 4m with a dual-pitched roof, or 3m with any other roof. If the building sits within 2m of a boundary, the maximum height is 2.5m. We'll help you design a building that fits comfortably within these limits.
Are there extra rules in conservation or protected areas?
+Yes. Dorchester has a conservation area, and much of the surrounding countryside lies within the Dorset National Landscape (formerly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
